- Current Opening: Shift Cook
We are currently looking to fill a cook position throughout the year. Hours vary season to season and are based on the needs of the retreat and summer camp programs. This position is a part time position averaging less than 30 hours a week throughout the year. Compensation will be hourly and benefits are not currently available for the position. During the retreat season August - May the hours will be mostly weekends and some weekdays. During the summer hours will be daily Mon-Fri and one or two weekends a month. Summer Employment
Wesley Woods hires over 45 summer staff each summer to fill a variety of roles. All summer staff are hired as counselors and specialize in at least one other support area. Choices for specialization include: horses, waterfront & lifeguarding, archery, ropes course, maintenance, and food service. Staff rotate positions—switching between counseling and serving in support roles. All summer staff must be 18 yrs. old by August 20th, 2011. Staff operate as contracted employees with a set salary. Included in the compensation package is room and board on grounds.

Wesley Woods summer staff have the opportunity to work with a number of different program types.
Inpost Camping- Approximately: 1300 campers in 2010
The main camp adventure program has some standard features across all the events. Campers have air conditioned sleeping quarters, take most of their meals in the dining hall, and have a water activity journey during the day. At week-long events, campers will have two other journey times as well. All events are built on three meals and two snacks daily. The camp fee also includes a water bottle, group photo, and horse ride (weight limit 240 lbs). There are Bible Study and night worship services daily.
Outpost Camping- Approximately: 565 campers in 2010
The outpost is an adventure based program where campers live in the woods and do many exciting and challenging activities. Campers stay in many different styles of sleeping accommodations, including covered wagons, tepees, platform tents w/cots, a remodeled granary barn, 1918 Sears and Roebuck home, the Ponderosa, hand built log cabin or yurts. Outpost sites do not have electricity or running water, but public drinking water is available for cooking and drinking. All events are built on three meals and two snacks daily. Weight limit for horseback riding is 240 lbs. Campers will cook two meals a day over the campfire, usually breakfast and supper. Menu options include pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, pizza pies, homemade chicken & noodles, donuts, mac & cheese, beef stew, foil dinners, and more. They travel once a day to the main camp area for a meal. There is Bible Study daily. Campers in week-long programs will be given an opportunity to choose their afternoon activities.
Day Camping- Approximately: 3 weeks in 2010
Wesley Woods provides 2 weeks of day camp off site to local churches.
FAQ
How much will I make?
Salaries start at $2200 for a high school graduate with incremental raises for certifications, experience, and specializations. For exact contract amounts complete the application and contact site staff.
When would I start and how would I receive training?
Staff will arrive for training on Sunday, May 22nd, 2011. Training will be two weeks long and includes certification in specializations and general staff information. Staff unable to commit to training are trained as they arrive.
When would the summer end?
Last campers leave on Wednesday, August 17th and summer staff’s last day is Friday, August 19th. Staff who need to leave prior to the end of summer may do so, as long as they give their supervisor a two week notice.
When will I have time off?
Counseling staff receive one four hour block off during the week. Support staff work a varying schedule dependent on activity schedule. All staff are off from 9pm Friday through 2pm on Sunday.
